  • Individual Health Insurance

    Protecting your health...

Individual Medical Insurance is designed to provide you with access to private healthcare so you can bypass the NHS and receive quality treatment when you need it most.

Personal health insurance offers peace of mind knowing there are no waiting lists, the highest standards of care, lower infection risks, private rooms and round the clock visiting hours.

    Personalise your policy

With individual plans ranging from basic to comprehensive there is likely to be a policy that suits your needs and budget. With some insurers the options can even be tailored to fit your specific requirements.

  • What does Medical Insurance cover?

Getting you back on your feet...

Individual Private Health Insurance pays for medical treatment for you in private healthcare facilities. The scope of the cover provided can vary considerably depending on what options you select.

    Core Cover

Most personal plans will cover inpatient and day patient treatment in full which means that you would be covered for treatment, testing and consultations where a hospital bed is required either overnight or just for the day.

    Outpatient Cover

To cover initial consultations and diagnostic testing where a hospital bed is not required a level of outpatient cover will need to be selected. This is recommended to avoid NHS outpatient waiting lists.

  • How does Personal Health Cover work?

    Getting treatment fast...

The level of cover and type of treatment required will determine the exact process but the main variation depends on whether the policy includes outpatient cover.

    No Outpatient Cover

Holding a policy without outpatient cover does mean that you run the risk of having to go through the NHS outpatient waiting list for diagnostic testing and initial consultations.

  • Do I need Personal Medical Insurance?

    Getting the best treatment...

Although the National Health Service (NHS) does a brilliant job with limited resources, millions of individuals in the UK have decided they would rather be treated privately.

    Why should I go private?

Those with private healthcare cover benefit from speedier diagnosis and treatment, the highest quality care, lower infection risks, private rooms with internet access and round the clock visiting times.

Individual private medical insurance is particularly popular with business people and the self-employed who need to return to work as quickly as possible and retired individuals where NHS waiting times for orthopaedic treatment has traditionally been one of the longest.

    Getting it right...

    1. Choose the level of Outpatient Cover
Although the level of outpatient cover makes a sizable difference to the premiums it does ensure that initial consultations and testing can be done privately.

    2. Cancer Cover
A popular option is to upgrade the policy so there is no time limit for the provision of biological cancer drugs (some plans have a standard limit of 12 months).

    3. Psychiatric Cover
Although some plans include a base level of psychiatric cover it is more common for this to be a policy upgrade with most insurers, especially for outpatient treatment.

Overview

What is individual health insurance?

Although there are a huge range of options and plans available through our experience we have found most individuals fit into one of just a handful of categories and as such this site has been designed with this in mind.

Low cost health cover

Other than the reason for the cover, budget can often dictate the appropriate type of health insurance. Low cost plans tend cover inpatient treatment in full with limited if any outpatient treatment. Thus this treatment is designed to covermore serious procedures which require a stay in hospital.

Outpatient treatment includes the likes of specialist consultations and diagnostic tests, it enables you to get diagnosed and treated quickly ensuring you are back on your feet as soon as possible.

Comprehehsive health cover

If you are looking for a greater level of cover than a basic plan can provide comprehensive health cover will in most cases cover outpatient treatment in full in addition to the inpatient treatment covered on a basic plan.

Outpatient treatment includes the likes of specialist consultations and diagnostic tests, it enables you to get diagnosed and treated quickly ensuring you are back on your feet as soon as possible.

Who do you want to cover?

Personal health insurance

Then we get to who you would like to cover, health cover can be provided for a single person, a whole family or even a whole company. Individual health plans simply cover the person in question, all the plan limits are in respect of that individual.

Family medical insurance

With age comes responsibility and for many a family and all it has to offer. A family health plan can provide you with the peace of mind ensuring your partner and your children can also receive treatment when they need it most.

There are a number of additional benefits which can be bolted on to family health cover which includes dental & optical benefits for your everyday healthcare costs.

Other policy options?

Cover for the self employed

Although self employment brings benefits such as being your own boss it also brings added pressures including the lack of a safety net should something happen.

It is important to recognise that a self employed health plan is designed to provide fast diagnosis and treatment so you can return to earning an income as soon as possible. It does not provide any sort of protection against your loss of income.

Worldwide health cover

Business travellers and globe trotters like to know should they need treatment thay can receive it anywhere in the world. Plans tend to be set-up including or excluding North America due to the higher than average medical costs. These policies offer some of the most comprehensive cover available in the health insurance market.

Personal factors which affect the policy

When considering personal health insurance it is important to recognise that there are a number of personal factors which will affect the price of your health insurance quotes.

As you can probably guess, given a policy is essentially protecting our health the plans our priced on this basis.

Age

As we age so we start creaking, we tend to have more aches and pains and require more treatment. Your individual health cover premiums will take this in to account, so as our age increases so do our medical insurance premiums.

Smoker status

Smoking presents a number of health hazards and for those of you who have not been able to kick the habit you can expect inflated health insurance premiums to take account of this.

Lifestyle and exercise

We all know how important it is to regularly exercise and keep our body fit an healthy, many of the top insurers are now rewarding health living with discounted premiums with points scoring systems depending on how active your lifestyle is.

Key policy options

Outpatient Treatment

The single biggest influencer on your health cover premiums is the level of outpatient cover. This includes diagnostic tests and specialist consultations.

The greater the level of outpatient cover you require the higher your premiums.

Excess

It is essentially the amount you are willing to pay towards a claim, an excess can range from as little as £50 up to £1,000. The higher the excess the lower your monthly premiums. For a £100 excess you can expect a 5% discount on your premiums.

Alternative medicines

Added extras include alternative medicines should you suffer an injury such as whiplash or a sports injury. Your GP may refer you to an osteopath, acupuncturist, physiotherapist or a chiropractor and the treatment would be covered on your medical plan.

Hospital List

Ensure you are not paying for hospitals you will never use. As London Hospitals tend to be more expensive insurers often offer an option to remove London Hospitals from your list if not appropriate, thus saving on your premiums.
