Medical Quote Factors

back to quote »
Type of Plan

Plans range from basic to comprehensive. More comprehensive plans provide a greater level of cover for outpatient consultations, treatments, tests and scans (where a hospital bed is not needed). All policies cover these forms of healthcare as an inpatient (where as bed is required), even the most basic plans.

Comprehensive plans also provide cover for more additional benefits, such as osteopathy, homeopathy, oral surgery, home nursing and private ambulance services. Naturally, the more comprehensive the plan chosen the higher the health insurance quote returned.

Worldwide Cover

Worldwide health insurance is ideally suited to international businessmen or businesswomen who need to travel abroad regularly or have to spend long periods of time abroad. It is also useful to any other individual who travels abroad on a regular basis or for prolonged periods of time.

With this form of cover it is possible to gain medical treatment in a large number of countries across the globe (within policy limits). With the cost of healthcare varying from country to country and the increased risk associated with overseas travel, health insurance quotes with worldwide cover attract higher premiums, especially if the United States is added to the list of covered countries.

Hospital Network

Including London or premier hospitals will result in higher medical insurance quotes as the hospital list will include top London hospitals, especially if the premier list is chosen. It should be noted that a national list will include London hospitals just with a reduced number of eligible facilities.

Excess

Including an excess can reduce the premiums quoted by 2% to 35%, depending on the level of your chosen excess. For example, an excess of £250 would reduce monthly premiums by approximately 10%. It is important to note that should you require treatment the excess would only need to be paid once per policy year.

Six Week Wait Option

Including the six week option could reduce your affordable health insurance quotes by around 20%. With this option you would be required to undergo inpatient treatment on the NHS if the waiting list is less than 6 weeks long.

It should be noted that with most plans eligible outpatient treatment is not subject to the 6 week wait.

Include Family Members

It is possible to gain affordable health insurance quotes that include members of your family, whether that is your partner, children or both. The premium addition to cover children is significantly lower than that to cover adults.

Underwriting options

Most policies are underwritten on what is called a 'moratorium' basis, which means that there is no need for a medical or to declare your medical history but the plan would exclude any conditions you have suffered in the previous five years. After a two year period without treatment these conditions will usually be covered.

There is also the option to undergo full medical underwriting. Given that you will have to disclose your medical history to the insurer with this option the health insurance rates quoted will usually be reduced. If you have a medical condition you will also get a clear answer as to whether it will be covered.

Type of Plan
Basic Plan- a plan for more serious illnesses only, it covers inpatient treatment in full.
Mid-Range Plan- provides limited cover for consultations and tests where a hospital bed is not required. Covers inpatient treatment in full and caps outpatient treatment at a monetary limit, i.e. £1,000 per annum.
Comprehensive Plan- covers the cost of treatment in full for conditions excluding pre-existing and chronic. It covers both inpatient and outpatient treatment in full.
Six Week Wait Option
Choosing this option you agree to receive treatment via the NHS should the NHS waiting list for treatment be less than six weeks.
An NHS waiting list of more than six weeks qualifies you to receive your treatment privately straight away.
Not all insurers offer a six week wait option however choosing this option could reduce you premiums by 20-30%.
Excess
An excess is the proportion you would pay towards the cost of treatment should a claim arise. An excess tends to be paid per policy year and can range from as little as £50 up to anything over £1,000.
Including an excess reduces the insurers risk and in turn you can expect a discount to be applied to your premiums for including an excess. A £100 excess can reduce your monthly premiums by around 5%.
Telephone Number
In order to ensure you of a policy that fits your circumstance we often require further information and the easiest way to find out that information is to speak to you.
We are here to help, simply to ensure you have all the information you require to make an informed decision.
By providing us have with a contact telephone number the whole process of arranging your insurance plan is made much easier.
Hospital Network
There are hundreds of private hospitals throughout the UK and many insurers believe you shouldn't have to pay for hospitals you are never likely to use.
Due to their location London hospitals tend to be more expensive to run which naturally results in higher premiums. If you are based outside of London you can choose to exclude these hospitals from your plan and reduce your premiums.
