Type of Plan
Basic Plan- a plan for more serious illnesses only, it covers inpatient treatment in full.
Mid-Range Plan- provides limited cover for consultations and tests where a hospital bed is not required. Covers inpatient treatment in full and caps outpatient treatment at a monetary limit, i.e. £1,000 per annum.
Comprehensive Plan- covers the cost of treatment in full for conditions excluding pre-existing and chronic. It covers both inpatient and outpatient treatment in full.
Six Week Wait Option
Choosing this option you agree to receive treatment via the NHS should the NHS waiting list for treatment be less than six weeks.
An NHS waiting list of more than six weeks qualifies you to receive your treatment privately straight away.
Not all insurers offer a six week wait option however choosing this option could reduce you premiums by 20-30%.
Excess
An excess is the proportion you would pay towards the cost of treatment should a claim arise. An excess tends to be paid per policy year and can range from as little as £50 up to anything over £1,000.
Including an excess reduces the insurers risk and in turn you can expect a discount to be applied to your premiums for including an excess. A £100 excess can reduce your monthly premiums by around 5%.
